It lays the asphalt flat and provides minor compaction before it is compacted by a roller. Large freeways are often paved with concrete and this is done using a slipform paver. Trucks dump loads of readymix concrete in heaps along in front of this machine and then the slipform paver spreads the concrete out and levels it off using a screed.

2.Motor Grader

Considered to be one of the most important machinery in road construction, motor graders are used for levelling the surface of the road so that asphalt can be laid on it. They are generally used for the construction of gravel or dirt based roads. Modern-day motor graders, also known as articulated frame motor graders, consist of three axels — two at the rear end and one axel in the front of the machine. They have a blade somewhere in between the front and rear end of the grader which levels the intended surface. The width of the blade depends on the size of the machine and motor graders are available in various sizes to suit road construction activities of different scales.

3.Soil stabiliser (construction vehicle)

A soil stabiliser is a construction vehicle with a powered metal drum that has rows of mixing blades or paddles. It makes soil cement by blending soil, a binder agent (usually Portland cement or lime) and water together with paddles in the mixing chamber instead of a concrete mixer and usually does not cut or mill hard or very thick asphalt or concrete. Modern soil stabilisers are more powerful and often use carbide tips instead of paddles. Some are called single pass soil stabilizers because they can make soil cement in one pass where some of these machines take up to four passes. In this way most soil stabilisers have become much more like road recyclers where they can also blend the old road surface in the mixture.

4.Stabilized Soil Mixing Plant

A stabilized soil mixing plant is a combination of kinds of machines used for mixing stabilized soil, which is used for highway construction, municipal road projects, and fertile airport areas. The plant produces stabilized soil with different gradings in a continuous way. Such a plant usually contains a cement silo, measuring and conveying system, and mixing devices.

5.Material Transfer Vehicles

Material transfer vehicles (MTVs) are used to assist the paver in accepting HMA. Most pavers are equipped to receive HMA directly from end dump or live bottom trucks, however in certain situations it can be necessary or advantageous to use an MTV. Paving using bottom dump trucks and windrows requires a windrow elevator MTV (Figure 1 and 2), while other MTVs are used to provide additional surge volume, which is advantageous because it allows the paver to operate continuously without stopping, minimizes truck waiting time at the paving site and may minimize aggregate segregation and temperature differentials.

The Working Principle and Structure of Asphalt Drum Mix Plant

Working Principle

First,the cold aggregate, asphalt and mineral filler are weighed respectively. Then the cold aggregate is conveyed to the dryer drum. Meanwhile, the mineral and asphalt are also delivery to the periphery of inner drum. After the cold aggregate is heated, the hot aggregate will flow into the drum periphery. Therefore, the materials are mixed together continuously. The repeated processes are lasting all the time. The drying method of cold aggregate adopts downstream mode. The finished products are poured from the drying mixer drum, which are delivered to the construction sites.

Main Structure

1.Aggregate batching system

Aggregate batching system main includes: batch hopper, feeding belt, collecting belt, vibrating screen and belt conveyor. There are 4 batch hoppers carrying aggregates with different specifications to meet the gradation requirements of asphalt mixture. At the lower part of each batch hopper equipped with adjustable belt feeder, which can realize stepless speed regulation. The collecting belt under the hoppers will collect the aggregates and transfer them to the vibrating screen. Particles with diameter >40mm will be screened out, and the rest will be sent to the belt conveyor. Then the belt conveyor will move the aggregates to the drum dryer (drying drum).

2. Drying & mixing system

Drying & mixing system consists of drying cylinders, combustion devices, and oil ignition system components, etc. Drying drum contains 4 carrier rollers, 2 rolling rings, 2 blocking wheels, a cylinder and shovel plates. The cylinder was supported by carrier rollers with its rolling rings and driven by the reduction gears stably and evenly. When aggregates get into the drying drum, they will be raised by the shovel plate to the highest point and then poured down, forming a wall where the fire will go through to dehydrate the materials. The cylinder is rolling with inclination of 3.5°to get the aggregates mixed with bitumen and out off the cylinder for elevating in right time.

3.Bitumen supply system

The bitumen supply system is composed of bitumen tank, bitumen gear pump, pipes and bitumen spray tube. The gear pump is driven by the adjustable-speed motor and transfer the bitumen from bitumen tank to the drying drum for mixing process.

4.Dust Collecting System

The dust collecting system has two collecting levels, cyclone dust filter and water dust collector. The purified air flies up and gets discharged from the chimney, while the dust mud sinks in the sedimentation basin thanks to the gravity.
